So he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? Soon I will return to fight against the prince of Persia, and when I go, the prince of Greece will come; but first I will tell you what is written in the Book of Truth. (No one supports me against them except Michael, your prince). Daniel 10:20-21 (NIV).
Have you ever considered that one, or some, or even many angels might have done battle for you, in the name of the Lord, many years before you were born?
The angel sent to Daniel was sent to deliver a prophecy. He would do that while also on a mission from God to do battle in Persia and Greece. Persia had already overthrown Babylon, and eventually Greece would occupy and overthrow Persia (and Babylon). In time, Greece would be overthrown by Rome, and Rome a thousand years later by hordes from central Europe. America supplanted Europe in the last century, and in ours, America is being surpassed by China and Inda.
Long before that happened, angels did God’s bidding in Persia, and Greece, and we can even assume in the other empires. https://enduringword.com/bible-commentary/daniel-10/ says that, “heavenly warfare is to be directed against first Persia and then Greece, because each of these in turn will have power over God’s people.” Before the empires in those states became empires, God sent His messengers and soldiers to fight so that humanity would be enabled to rise as it did according to God’s purposes.
It was so then; it is so now. Or have you forgotten that we, in America, pride ourselves (sometimes too much) on being “one nation, under God.” “In God we trust” is, for now, on all our money. Nearly all our founding fathers believed they were doing the Lord’s will, that they were being guided and protected by His Providence. That the United States was uniquely blessed by God, despite our many faults, failures, and sins. Maybe one evidence for this is how we’ve been protected by the angels. Today, though, we are in decline.
I believe there are no coincidences, that there is only the will of God. When things work out ‘just so,’ perhaps it’s because God has sent invisible warriors to fight battles that clear our paths. Things work out they ways that they do because God wills it to be so, and sends fighters to make it so. This side of eternity, we may never know for sure. For now, it’s enough to remember that God esteemed Daniel by sending divinely commissioned messengers to bring a message to him while enroute to battle. A message that Daniel would later share with us, for all time.

Lord Jesus, thank You for sending Your protecting warrior angels to fight battles for You and for us against forces of evil who only want to destroy and kill.
