Practical Proverbial, from Joel, 25 October 2022. Today’s topic: Coming Soon

Blow the trumpet in Zion, declare a holy fast, call a sacred assembly.  Gather the people, consecrate the assembly; bring together the elders, gather the children, those nursing at the breast.  Let the bridegroom leave his room and the bride her chamber.  Let the priests, who minister before the Lord, weep between the portico and the altar.  Let them say, “Spare your people, Lord.  Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn, a byword among the nations.  Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where is their God?’” Joel 2:15-18

Jesus is coming soon.   Let everyone know because He can come back at any moment and most of us aren’t ready.  That’s the underlying message of these three verses.  The reason to blow the trumpet, begin mass repentance, and implore the Almighty for mercy is that the Almighty has returned to judge the world.  Tell everyone about it beforehand.   Tell everyone, no matter who they are or what they’re doing.

Because if we don’t, then the people who don’t believe in Jesus in this present time will be held accountable to that in that time to come.   So will we.   At some point, Jesus will ask of me and you, “what did you do to tell others about me?”

If you don’t know what to tell others about Jesus, start in your Bible.   If you don’t have one, they’re easy to obtain.   They’re free on the internet.  If you read the Bible earnestly, you’ll find that it’s the most interconnected book in all of humanity.   Thousands of years of analysis and study have shown how the Old and New Testaments cross reference each other in ways no simple human book could.   And ALL of it is about Jesus, with the first testament talking about the time before Jesus, and the second testament talking about His time and what happened after.  Yet all of it describes God, of whom Jesus is one person, and His eternal love for the humanity He created as His very good creation.

Then talk about what Jesus means to you.   If you don’t quote Scripture, that’s ok.   Depending on your own style, it may even be better.  Talk about what you believe, and how He has provided for you, and stuck by your side, and provided an example by which to live your life.   Talk about Him actually being who He said He was, and is, and is to come.   And do it soon, because nobody but God the Father knows when our time here on the Third Rock will come to an end.  He is coming soon.

Lord, all my praise to You for how You bless us all.  I thank You for today, and for helping me to talk about You.

It's about God...it's about the life He gives us...it's about going day by day...it's about you. It's not about me.
